What's the Connection?

Four of our 2xGreatGrandparents share a characteristic that is unique to just those four in our family tree. What is it? Answer below.

Thomas James Hollis 1830-1905

Thomas Hollis is Ann's 2xGreatGrandfather. He was born in St Pancras, Middlesex on 17th December 1830. He had eight brothers and sisters.

On 26th February 1854 he married Mary Ann Stoneman in St Pancras. She was from Exeter working in London as a servant. They had four children and sadly Mary Ann died in 1863.

In the same year that Mary Ann died Thomas married his second wife Betsey Prior on 1st August 1863. They had two children together.

Thomas worked as a clerk, first for the Post Office, and then from 1865 for the London and North Western Railway at Euston station. When he joined the railway they moved to Poplar where he lived until he died in 1905.

Emma Osborne 1832-1902

Emma was our 2xGreatGrandmother, the wife of Charles Stent . She was born in Lambeth in 1832 and married Charles in 1852. Her story after her marriage is here in Charles Stent's page.

William Russell 1833-1910

William is our 2xGreatGrandfather, born in Kemsing, Kent. His biography is covered in the page about the Russell family here.

Mary Ann Woods 1826-1917

Mary Ann is our 2xGreatGrandmother born in Yarmouth Isle of Wight in 1826, the daughter of Thomas Woods. She married William Harris in 1847 in Northwood Isle of Wight. They had nine children, including Charles Harris who served on HMS Warrior. Mary Ann lived in Fratton with another son Alfred at 1 Barnes Road. She died there in 1917.
