Mary Truman

1789 - 1874

Mary Truman was married to our 4x Great Uncle John Dugay. In 1874 she lived in Winchester with her son Thomas, a carpenter, and his wife. She had moved in with them only a couple of years before when she had become too frail to live on her own. She needed a lot of attention which was provided mainly by a 12 year old boy by the name of Barker.

One February morning Mary was put outside the back door sitting on a chair facing the sun. This was a regular occurrence. She was found a little while later on the ground, having fallen off the chair and knocked her head on a stone windowsill. She died not long afterwards.

The coroner reprimanded Thomas's wife for not giving Mary proper care and attention.
